Senior Quantity Surveyor - Telecoms/Civils/Utilities
Coventry
£50,000 - £55,000 + Car Allowance + Bonus

Overview
This engaging role as a Senior Quantity Surveyor is to lead the commercial and contractual management of a portfolio of telecom utility projects in and around the Coventry area, which include fibre telecom new builds, enhancement projects and ongoing framework schemes. The company itself is a well-known large national telecoms organisation, they have demanding standards and are one of, if not the most rewarding and progressive employers in the business.

The organisation are in fact the client, but they do prefer their commercial staff to have had good relevant contractor experience. So, if you're seeking your next commercial challenge outside the wider civil engineering contractor type environment then it would be worth you applying.

The Role:

  • Managing the commercial resources of the assigned project (or region/workstream) to manage planned expenditure through the placement and control of contracts
  • Valuing work executed by contractors and subsequently certifying interim and final payments
  • Supporting the authorisation and submission of project variations
  • Assessing, reviewing and mitigating commercial and contractual risks and implementing the companies' policies for risk management
  • Providing commercial and contractual expertise to contracts which includes the production and submission of valuation certification, drafting and issuing correspondence, claims, budget monitoring and producing contract/workstream performance data
  • Providing robust, timely and accurate cost and value data at both project and regional levels and their progress in relation to the programme schedule
  • Assisting in the monthly measurement of supplier KPI’s and reporting
  • Providing commercial information from projects to enable estimation at programme level to occur
  • Undertaking estimations of future work for pre-sales
  • Acting as the contractual and commercial guardian within the business
  • Coaching, developing and mentoring junior members of staff
Requirements:

  • Experience of commercial management and procurement of contractors, including chairing regular meetings, measurement and control cycle, certificates and accruals calculations
  • Ability to use spreadsheets to interpret and collate financial data
  • Working knowledge of NEC3 ECC forms of Contract
  • Negotiation with suppliers and partners
  • Presentation skills and report writing
  • Experience in the civil engineering industry/passive network e.g. street-works
  • Excellent communication, numerical and computer literacy skills
  • Degree level education in commercial/contract/project management or equivalent; or substantial professional experience within similar role
  • Experience in the utilities sector
  • Experience of NRSWA and SRWR street-works requirements
If you feel that you can demonstrate you meet the brief and you are seeking something a little outside mainstream contracting with a company that boasts opportunity, then I'd be pleased to hear from you. Apply with your CV and contact Lee Harley at Intersect Global Limited.
