Planning Engineer – Water & Wastewater Infrastructure

The Opportunity
Intersect Global is partnering with a growing infrastructure delivery team seeking a Planning Engineer to support the successful delivery of major water and wastewater capital projects.
This role is ideal for a planning professional who combines strong programme management capability with an understanding of construction delivery. You will play a key role in developing, maintaining, and analysing project programmes, ensuring schedules accurately reflect project requirements, delivery strategies, risks, and site activities.
The Role
Working closely with Project Managers, Engineers, Commercial teams, and site delivery personnel, you will be responsible for producing and maintaining robust project schedules using Primavera P6, providing visibility of progress, risks, opportunities, and key milestones across a portfolio of infrastructure projects.
Key Responsibilities
Develop and maintain detailed Primavera P6 programmes with robust logic, sequencing, and critical path analysis.
Establish and manage programme baselines.
Update project progress, actuals, and forecasts using site and project performance information.
Produce programme reports, milestone tracking, dashboards, and narrative updates for stakeholders.
Identify programme risks, delays, constraints, and opportunities, providing mitigation and recovery strategies where required.
Collaborate with project delivery teams to validate programme assumptions and ensure schedules reflect operational realities.
Support NEC contract requirements, including Clause 31 and Clause 32 programme submissions.
Assist with tender programmes, pre-construction planning, and project controls activities.
Contribute to planning best practice, continuous improvement, and knowledge sharing across project teams.
About You
We welcome applications from candidates with a range of backgrounds and levels of experience. To be successful in this role, you are likely to have some of the following:
Degree, HNC/HND, or equivalent qualification in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Project Management, or a related discipline.
Experience in Planning, Site Engineering, Project Engineering, Project Controls, Construction Management, or similar roles.
Experience developing and maintaining programmes using Primavera P6 or comparable planning software.
Understanding of construction methodologies, project delivery, and programme management principles.
Experience within water, wastewater, utilities, civil engineering, energy, transportation, or other infrastructure sectors.
Knowledge of planning techniques including logic linking, float management, critical path analysis, and programme reporting.
Familiarity with NEC contracts would be advantageous.
Strong analytical, organisational, and problem-solving skills.
Excellent communication and stakeholder management abilities.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
