Managing Quantity Surveyor – Civil Engineering / Water (NEC)

£85,000 + Package | Hybrid Working

As part of continued growth, a Tier 1 civil engineering contractor is recruiting a Lead Managing Quantity Surveyor to join their expanding Water Division on a recently awarded energy and utilities infrastructure project.

This role offers an experienced Senior Quantity Surveyor or Managing Quantity Surveyor the opportunity to step into a senior leadership position with fast-track progression to Commercial Manager.

The business is highly people-focused, placing strong emphasis on staff welfare, professional development, training, and long-term career progression. While this role sits within the Water Division, the wider group has a strong footprint across civil engineering, utilities, rail, aviation, and construction.

The Role – Lead Managing Quantity Surveyor

Reporting to the Regional Commercial Manager, you will be responsible for the overall commercial performance of the project while leading and developing a high-performing commercial team.

Key Responsibilities:

Lead, mentor, and support the commercial team (training, coaching, appraisals, and development)

Encourage collaboration between Commercial and Project Management teams

Agree, monitor, and review personal objectives across the commercial function

Provide contractual and commercial advice to the operations and delivery teams

Manage, review, and expand the subcontractor supply chain

Raise and manage new subcontracts, ensuring compliance with governance procedures

Carry out subcontract evaluations, assess applications for payment, and authorise payments

Work closely with the Operational Lead to ensure accurate commercial reporting, identify risk, and maximise commercial opportunities

Experience Required

HNC / BSc in Quantity Surveying or related discipline

Minimum 6 years’ experience as a Senior Quantity Surveyor or Managing Quantity Surveyor

Background in civil engineering, water, utilities, or infrastructure projects

Strong working knowledge of NEC forms of contract

Experience gained with a Tier 1 main contractor or reputable subcontractor

Stable career history with proven leadership capability
